Galaxy Unpacked

on

All eyes were on Paris on 10 July – not for the 2024 Olympics, but for the annual Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event.

During this exciting event, Samsung announced its upcoming releases and updates that customers can look forward to very soon.

Here’s everything you need to know.

AI is the Future

In the continuing consumer AI arms race, President and Head of MX Business Dr. TM Roh spoke on Samsung’s vision for how they want to use artificial intelligence to help customers with their daily lives, without compromising on privacy. That’s why they’re introducing a hybrid Galaxy AI model that combines on-device security and privacy with cloud-based AI features.

“The most important part of AI is maximising the life-enhancing benefits while minimising misuse,” Roh said. “We are proactively collaborating with industry leaders to develop and deploy safe and inclusive AI technology so that no one is left out.”

Samsung is using AI algorithms to continuously improve AI by developing a personal knowledge graph for each user, which over time will provide progressively tailored services.

Put a (Galaxy) Ring On It

We got a peek at it earlier in the year, but now we’ve had a proper look: Samsung is taking their health innovations one step further with Galaxy Ring, their first finger-focused wearable device.

This lightweight and comfortable ring is built with strong titanium so it can be worn 24/7. It features three sensors to monitor sleep activity, heart rate, cycle tracking, and more important health stats to unlock powerful personalised health insights.

It can last up to seven days on a single charge, is water resistant, and withstands a variety of temperatures and humidity levels to ensure that it works better and longer for you.

The ring is currently available for pre-order, with general availability starting 24 July.

Galaxy Watch Ultra

Another new drop coming soon is the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which builds on Samsung’s signature circle watch design. It builds a lot, actually. It’s chunky, is what we’re saying. So it makes sense that this smartwatch is touted as Samsung's most capable smartwatch yet, and is perfect for adventurers, designed as it is to withstand a variety of climates, temperatures, and altitudes.

With a three-nanometer application processor, this device is three times faster than its predecessor. It’s also got Samsung’s first precision, dual-frequency GPS system which uses two satellite signals to offer increased location accuracy.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch7 are the first Android smartwatches powered by Wear OS 5, the most powerful release from Wear OS yet. This ensures smoother, more seamless interactions and a better wearable experience.

New Z Series

It’s not just accessories getting an update this year. Samsung is also bringing Galaxy AI to the new Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, the slimmest and lightest Galaxy Z series ever. These new devices are made with materials that further enhance durability and sustainability. They’re powered by a Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the most advanced Snapdragon mobile processor yet.

The new Galaxy  Z series are fully integrated with the latest Google Gemini app, so you have your own AI-powered assistant right on your phone to help with writing, learning, or planning.

Of course, the popular Circle to Search function will also be present in the Z series. In fact, it’s taken up a notch. Users can now circle a problem, like a child’s maths equation, and receive step-by-step instructions on how to solve it.

“It doesn’t just give them the answer. Instead, it gives a clear and simple route to learning,” explains Samsung Brand and Channel Marketing Executive Annika Bizon. “It’s designed to help people become independent problem solvers, and this kind of learning support is available on any device that supports Circle to Search.”

Galaxy Buds3

The final new drop Samsung announced is the Galaxy Buds3, an impressive feat of pintsized AI. The Interpreter feature is game changing. By using Listening mode on your Galaxy Z Fold6 or Flip6 with your Buds3 in your ears, you can instantly translate audio in real time. For example, if you’re in a lecture in a foreign language, your buds will instantly translate so you can hear the lecture in your chosen language. How cool is that?

If these announcements are anything to go by, the future of tech is exciting and thrilling. We can’t wait to hear what’s next from this trailblazing brand.
