Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Head of Product to lead the design, development, and management of retail banking and subscription-based products. This role is critical in shaping product strategy, enhancing customer experience, and driving business growth through innovative and commercially viable product offerings.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Vision
- Own and evolve the product roadmap in line with company strategy, customer needs, and market trends.
- Conduct regular customer needs analysis, market research, and competitive assessments to identify product opportunities.
- Align product portfolio management to lifecycle stages—from ideation and development to retirement.
- Monitor and manage product performance through financial indicators, customer behavior insights, and growth metrics.
Product Design, Development & Delivery
- Design and develop new products and enhancements for existing ones, ensuring commercial viability and alignment with customer needs.
- Prepare business cases, problem statements, user stories, roadmaps, and go-to-market documentation.
- Oversee end-to-end product lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery using Agile or Scrum methodologies.
- Continuously improve internal processes through data-driven strategies and insights.
Product Management
- Coordinate the rollout and implementation of new products or changes to existing offerings.
- Collaborate with pricing teams for product repricing strategies and manage related communication and marketing materials.
- Maintain and update all relevant product and process documentation.
- Lead product clean-up initiatives and manage back-book products.
Customer-Centric Focus
- Advocate for the voice of the customer in all product decisions.
- Utilize feedback, research, and analytics to enhance the user experience and increase customer lifetime value.
Control & Compliance
- Ensure a compliant control environment within the product portfolio, balancing risk, customer demand, and growth objectives.
- Monitor service levels and ensure delivery is in line with SLAs.
Stakeholder Management
- Engage cross-functionally with marketing, sales, engineering, operations, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Lead communication efforts related to product changes or launches.
- Represent the product function in relevant group-level forums.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor a team of Product Managers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Drive accountability, professional development, and cross-functional alignment.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Marketing, or related field (NQF Level 6 minimum).
- Honours degree (B.Sc. or B.Com) is advantageous.
- 4–7 years of experience in retail or subscription-based product environments.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Deep understanding of product lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of e-Commerce and digital product ecosystems.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation abilities.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on, execution-focused mindset.
